UK: New renewable energy generation record shows PM is right to call for a green industrial revolution
New figures released by the Government show a record increase in renewable energy generation in the first half of this year, providing 46% of the UK’s power needs. Wind alone generated 26% of Britain’s electricity in the first half of this year, with 14% coming from offshore wind (21 terawatt hours) and 12% from onshore (18.9TWh).

PGNiG Upstream Norway has signed an agreement with Norske Shell to acquire interests in Kvitebjørn and Valemon, two producing fields in the North Sea. Following the transaction, the PGNiG Group’s own gas production in Norway will increase to 0.9 bcm in 2021, nearly 30% above the previous forecast.

National Grid Ventures, the commercial development arm of National Grid, and Dutch Transmission System Operator TenneT have announced a cooperation agreement to explore the feasibility of connecting Dutch and British wind farms to the energy systems of both countries via subsea electricity cables called interconnectors. Empire Energy has commenced drilling the Carpentaria-1 well in Empire’s 100% owned Northern Territory permit EP187. The well will be drilled to evaluate the two unconventional shale targets, the Velkerri and Kyalla Shales, which are independently assessed to have a best estimate prospective resource of 2.4 trillion cubic feet of gas equivalent in Empire’s EP187 permit.
